The Vintner.

My friend Louis comes from old money. And when you live in Avignon France, old means the money goes back 400 years. 

He is a vintner of some esteem in southern France, known for coaxing a specific goût de terroir from his grapes. Although today he is feeling rather chuffed about this year’s Tibouren production, usually he is all smiles as he traverses the narrow Rue des Teinturiers to enjoy a leisurely lunch at La Fourchette with an old friend.

“Seems younger, invigorated,” I mumbled as I sipped the red house wine the waiter just poured from the bottle he left on our round wooden table.

“What, this?” Louis scoffed, picking up the bottle to read the label.

“No, you in that sweater. Was it a gift?” 

“You know, Peterman, you always stay a day too long.”
