My friend Edward asked me to bolster our offerings for engagements past 8:00 p.m.

A good tuxedo shirt, to start.

He ticked off a few requests and I scribbled them into my notebook.

French cuffs, naturally, to accommodate cuff links.

Convertible buttonholes at center placket to allow for a stud set when desired but with attached buttons for those days when a gentleman doesn’t want the fuss.

Should be a bit longer than expected for easy tuck-in.

Said I should give it a distinctive style element, so I developed this textured bib front.

All the other elegant finishing details you’d expect.

A fine shirt for the man who never tires of keeping standards, who holds the line against sartorial nonchalance.

The RSVP Classic Tuxedo Shirt (No. J8044). As described, woven from high-yarn-count, plain-weave 100% cotton. Narrow-rim mother-of-pearl buttons at center front and cuffs. Convertible buttonholes allow for use of the attached buttons but also have small secondary buttonholes to accommodate a cuff link instead. Ruched sleeve volume at the cuffs. Imported.

First of all, this is a great shirt, but there are issues.

I would expect the button holes to be open for studs. I assumed (from photos and drawings) that the pique pattern was on the cuffs and collar.

The fabric is quality and the pique pattern is rather long past all the buttons. This is great as I do not use a cummerbund and rarely a vest.

Overall, I paid for the J. Peterman label. I happy for the shirt, but could have been better.
