Increasing Your Range.
In the 1972 film Jeremiah Johnson, Bear Claw Chris Lapp asks, "Are you sure you can skin grizz?" Not a question much heard anymore, and luckily it doesn't often come to that.
Time was, you could travel from central Mexico and up to the northernmost point in Alaska, all the while having the fortune (or misfortune, depending on the mood of the beast) of the company of the grizzly. Not the case anymore, but conservation efforts are bettering the lot of grizzlies in the lower 48.
A few years back, I was leading a packhorse down a backcountry trail in the Mackenzie Mountains of the Northwest Territories when I rounded a turn and found myself in uncomfortably close proximity to a hulking example of this apex predator. At that moment, I didn't give much thought to decreasing range and decreasing numbers (except possibly my own). My luck held. Maybe I'd been in the woods too long, but he wanted nothing to do with me.
Increasing your scope and range has always been my goal.
To that end...
